Cannabis Law: Mississippi Medical Marijuana Update – Jan. 19, 2022

                                                                 

Great news! On Jan. 19, the MS Marijuana Bill SB 2095 passed the House with an amazing vote of 104 to 14 – with only three minor amendments added.

New amendments

• All oversight was transferred from the Department of Agriculture and Commerce to the Department of Health.
• The amount of marijuana a participant can purchase in a week was reduced from 3.5 oz. to 3 oz. (six 3.5 units weekly).
• More discretion was given to municipalities to allow grow facilities to also locate in commercial-zoned areas.

Even though the governor has threatened to veto a draft version that circulated late last year, he is reported to have said earlier this week that it’s getting “better” with every revision. The bill will be sent back to the Senate for approval – which is expected to pass.
