Cannabis Law: Federal Marijuana Legislation

Two Republican congressmen, Dave Joyce (R-OH) and Don Young (R-AK), are currently leading a bill to decriminalize marijuana. They aim to remove marijuana from the federal list of controlled substances, where marijuana remains a Schedule I drug. The bill hopes to provide medical marijuana to veterans and allow the federal government to regulate marijuana as they currently do alcohol.

This bill would allow states to keep marijuana illegal on a state level if that is what the state desires. However, those states that opt to decriminalize marijuana would be able to establish procedures regarding marijuana distribution. The bill would also allow these marijuana businesses to use federal banks.

We are keeping our eye on what the United States Congress decides to do. This could mean big things for marijuana business across the country!
